U.S. Army Public Information Office photographer headquartered in Achaffenberg, Germany 1954-55. Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California 1956-58. Assistant to photographers Ray Kellman and Wilhela Cushman specializing in fashion and beauty photography in New York City from 1958 to 1960. Assistant to Irving Penn, world-renowned fine art and advertising photographer 1960-62.

Professional background: Neal Barr Studio Ltd. opened in September of 1962 in New York City, specializing in fashion and beauty assignments for magazines and advertising agencies. Contributing photographer to Harper's Bazaar 1966-74. Some commercial clients over the past thirty years have been Revlon, Cover Girl, Max Factor, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Neutrogena, Clairol, Vanity Fair (lingerie), Lily of France, Maidenform, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Lord and Taylor, Christian Dior, Cardin, Halston, and Faberge.

Currently after forty three years in New York City Barr has relocated his studio to Ventura, California where he concentrates on photographing a book project of his own collection of 1920's vintage fashion. Barr's images continue to be established in the fine art field and are regularly exhibited at the Staley-Wise Gallery in New York, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of New York and purchased by collectors worldwide.
